American Airlines Suspends Service to 15 Cities Due to Corona Virus

| Aug 20, 2020 | Uncategorized

The Corona Virus just keeps landing hits. In a press release from earlier today, American Airlines announced that it will be suspending service to 15 cities across the U.S. beginning October 7. The suspensions are apparently the result of lower demand in the selected locations and the expiration of the CARES Act funding that was used, in part, to assist the airlines through the severe travel downturn.

American states that it will reassess the situation in late September, but since there are no signs of the virus letting up anytime soon, it seems likely that the suspensions will remain in place indefinitely. Most of the cities affected by American’s decision are small, but a few have populations in the hundreds of thousands.

The locations that will see service stoppages are:

Del Rio, Texas

Dubuque, Iowa

Florence, South Carolina

Greenville, North Carolina

Huntington, West Virginia

Joplin, Missouri

Kalamazoo/Battle Creek, Michigan

Lake Charles, Louisiana

New Haven, Connecticut

New Windsor, New York

Roswell, New Mexico

Sioux City, Iowa

Springfield, Illinois

Stillwater, Oklahoma

Williamsport, Pennsylvania

The travel industry, like many others, has been hit hard by Covid-19, and we may see additional suspensions from American and other airlines if matters do not improve in the near future.
